Spring Clothing Giveaway

Spring weather is just around the corner, and with it, comes the need for a different wardrobe. Spring and summer also bring holidays and celebrations. For some area families, gift-giving occasions compete for the same dollars needed to purchase clothing or food.  The people of St. Stephen Lutheran Church would like to help by offering an Accessories and Clothing Giveaway on Saturday, April 2 from 10-11:30 am.
            There will be a selection of gently used clothing for men, women, babies, and children, as well as accessories such as shoes, belts, bags, and scarves, at no cost. Those who come can bring their own bag, or take a bag provided and fill it with whatever they can use.
            The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency estimates that an average person throws away 70 lbs. of clothing every year totaling 21-24 billion pounds going into landfills annually! The St. Stephen Clothing Giveaway comes just shy of three weeks before Earth Day, when people are encouraged to think of creative ways to reuse, reduce, recycle and otherwise take care of the earth. Parishioners and their friends intend to help by donating clean, popular, wearable items that customers will take and use, thus keeping good clothing out of landfills. Most items will be gently used, but some will be almost new and could be gifts for others.
            Tight budgets often don’t leave anything for fun purchases, so the planning committee is making sure there will be costume jewelry, purses, and scarves, so shoppers can pick up a treat for themselves as well.
